Silks & Spices With Visit To Dennis Severs’ House

£25 members, £28 non-members

Please note Diane’s Walking Tours sell out fast.

Your ticket includes a guided walking tour and a visit to Dennis Severs’ House.

This walk is for all ages (usually most are 50+) and Diane, your Blue Badge Tour Guide, will introduce Who London ticket holders to each other at the start of the tour.

A dramatic 18th century church, two market buildings, an old brewery and the best preserved early Georgian domestic architecture in London feature on this walk with Diane.

Learn about the many immigrant communities including French Huguenots, Russian and Polish Jews and Bengalis who have added to the rich tapestry of the area.

Discover how this area has developed into a popular enclave for successful East London based artists.

After a break for lunch in the Spitalfields Market area we enter Dennis Severs’ House in atmospheric Folgate Street. When Severs purchased this Georgian Master Weaver’s house in the 1970s he decided to live there just as the original occupants might have done in the early 18th century. He decorated the house to capture the atmosphere of times past. Entering through the door of 18 Folgate Street is to pass through a frame into a painting with a time and life of its own. The house will be dressed for Christmas which will add to the experience.

Meeting point: 10.30am outside Liverpool Street Station (by the Kinderstransport Memorial next to McDonald’s) (Tour finishes at at approximately 3pm near to Liverpool Street Station.)
