January Introductions At The Old Bank Of England!

£4.50 members & £7 non-members

This event is great for Who London newcomers and regulars alike, so get your ticket before the spaces get filled up.

To kick off our Who London events year, we’ve reserved an area for drinks in one of the finest pubs in the City –  The Old Bank of England.

Out ticket fee is for our organisation. You can purchase your drinks on the day and the kitchen is open until 4pm.

Residing in the former Law Courts branch of the Bank of England, this beautifully renovated pub is a perfect setting for our third annual January Introductions event.

As the former branch of The Bank of England, the basement still contains the original vaults used to store bullion, and indeed some of the Crown Jewels during the First World War. Whilst two safes have now been changed to hold the cellars and kitchens, the main vault is intact – and still contains the huge steel bullion cupboards.

The Old Bank of England

In the 16th and 17th centuries, two taverns stood on the site of the Old Bank of England. ‘The Cock’ and ‘The Haunch of Venison’ were both demolished in 1888 to make way for the construction of the Law Courts’ branch of The Bank of England.

The Bank of England traded here for 87 years, until 1975, when the premises were sold to a building society. In 1994, London brewers, Fuller, Smith and Turner took over the lease and began a major refurbishment – with the aim of restoring the splendid building to its former glory.

The Old Bank of EnglandDirections
The nearest tube stations are Temple (on the District line) and Chancery Lane (Central line). Both are just a 5 minute walk away.

If you’re arriving into Temple Station, exit and head up the hill. Once at the top, turn right onto Fleet Street and we are just 100 yards down the road next to the Royal Courts of Justice. Alternatively, go to Chancery Lane on the Central line and take exit 3. Walk up until you reach Chancery Lane, turn left and walk the whole length of the lane until you reach the bottom – then turn right to find the pub.

The City Thameslink Station at Ludgate Hill, and BlackFriars Station on Queen Victoria Street are both within ten minutes walk of the pub.
