The Meaning Of Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day to you.

Did you know, Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia? Yet, in Great Britain, Valentine’s Day began to be popularly celebrated around the 17th century.

Friends, as well as lovers, exchanged notes or token gifts to express their emotions for each other. Many centuries ago, expressing such feelings was discouraged and even today some people find it hard to do so.

However, today especially is a great time to start telling your families and friends (and new friends!) how you feel about them and not just a partner if you have one. A little compliment goes a long way…

But if Valentine’s Day makes you want to meet other singles, you can join in with our events for unattached members – book your place on our next one or read more about our Chinese Cookery workshop.
